Welcome to Naxos. Her i will try to put out all
that info i get about Naxos and other greek island. First off all,
Naxos is a superb island and are locaited to the Cyclades, and is
the biggest off the Cyclades island. There is a lot off ferry going
to Naxos so you will never have any problem coming to/from the
island. There is daily ferries to Pireus, Mykonos, Paros, Ios and
Santorini, and almost daily connection with Iraklion, Shinoussa, Koufonisi
and Amorgos. From Santorini where im travlling from, is it about 2
- 3 hour with ferry. From Paros only one litle hour. Don't forget
that Santorini is a perfect starting point for going to other island
as well. Her you can check the ferry timetable.
Like a charter turist you have 3 small town to choose
from. Naxos (chora) is the capitel on the Island and is excellent
for young and old. Her
you will find everything, Internett, cash dispenser, newspaper and
what ever you require on holiday. Most off the cities fun is
down on the harbor
and her are all the pubs and tavar
nas. There are also many nice small shops
between the small street one the way up to the old castle.
Agia Anna and
Ag. Prokopiosis about 6 km from Chora town
is alot more quiet and it's ok for people who want a more calm
place. If you require party then the bus goes quite often
in to Chora (Naxos town). Natural you will find tavernas and place to
have some cold in you glass her to. (no panic).
The beaches on
Naxos is suberb. The main beach in centrum is ok, but there is so
mutch better beaches only some few kilometers from the town.Her you
can find you own litle beach if you are lucky, but anyway theres plenty
of space so you dont have to lay on you neighbour. (maybe not
in august when the greek and italian have their holiday) Nudism
is quit normal on the beaches outside the town so you should not be
shocket if some one walking nakked
in front off you. It's look's like a part off Plaka beach in the begining
is dedicated naturist people. Just under the church in the start off
Plaka there is only nude people. Agios Prokopios is another wery nice beach. Located about 5 kilometres away from the capital, if you take the bus you will pass this beach heading for Agia Anna and Plaka beach. When
you get away from the town beach, you want find many sunbeds, but
the beach is perfect ( some say the best in greece ) so why care about
that ;-). For going to the beaches outside town, you can go with the
buss,
or rent a car/motorbike. The buss leaving from the town every half
hour.
There can be some wind so a wind screen can be a god idea to bring
white you. Out one the Plaka beach the tavarnas laying right over
the street ( or i mean dust road ) where you can get something to
eat and drink.Sunset up one the portal you have to see, than this is a marvellous wiev. Do not get to late up there because the sun dropping fast inn the ocean. And don't forget to bring your camera with you.
Some of the places of interest on Naxos: the main town of the island with the Venetian castle built by Marcos Sanoudos in 1207, the Capuchin monastery, the Archaeological museum, the Byzantine Folk museum, the monastery of St. John Chrysostomos, the monastery of the Holy Cross and many more.
